Cleaning & Maintenance
Effortless maintenance
Any porous pavement system benefits from regular maintenance, TarmacDry is effortless to maintain.

Porous asphalt technology
The use of special
polymer modified asphalts and other additives in
TarmacDry are key to delivering a long life porous
and reservoir pavement. Tarmac's asphalt porous pavement technology
has been tested extensively since 1998 in trials and the Transport
Research Laboratory have independently validated the structural
performance of the system.
TarmacDry porous pavements continue to achieve their hydraulic conductivity design targets for many years without any maintenance. TarmacDry porous pavements are designed to capture particles such as silt in the top layer and over time will become clogged and its hydraulic conductivity properties will reduce.
The speed at which this degradation occurs depends on the physical characteristics of the site. The physical environment is taken into account at the porous pavement design stage to ensure that the TarmacDry system is still able to cope with a 1 in 100 year storm event even when 95% clogged.
TarmacDry Quick Cleaning Process
The
TarmacDry cleaning process is quick and easy using
water jetting 'suction' equipment to unblock the pores of
TarmacDry's porous surface. This cleaning service
can be provided through Tarmac's long-term maintenance package.
Tarmac Factoid
TarmacDry was installed on the parking area at the Pompey Centre retail park in 2002. This covered 20,000m2, part of which was heavily trafficked at the entrance to the B&Q builders merchants and part lightly trafficked. The hydraulic conductivity of the TarmacDry porous pavement on installation across the site was well in excess of 5,000mm/hr. By 2008 the conductivity in the heavily trafficked areas had fallen to below 1,000mm/hr and required cleaning whilst the lightly trafficked area was still delivering a conductivity above 5,000mm/hr. The conductivity of the heavily trafficked area was restored to above 3,000mm/hr after cleaning.
